I feel that portraits should capture the distinctive features and movements of the subject. When I paint portraits it is after many filmed interviews during which I come to understand and sense the uniqueness of the individual. In this case, the blank frames in the background reveal that Robert is an artist. His hand moves in thought and the ring on his third finger drifts on frail hands.
